Crossing the country, preparing for the return trip

Daily excursions from the lodge are common. No tour guided journeys as in the past. Our great insurance industry has cancelled that. You now rent the vehicle and with a great orientation at the lodge and some area maps, you are on your own in the high country. I highly recommend the experience.

I’ve finished off three nights of astronomical delights. Either it’s the mountain air or my increasing age but I feel totally exhausted

So I guess here is where I need to strongly encourage you as a member to get involved. The only way I can see to continue this next year is with some help. What is needed is someone with some basic telescope sense and the resources to make the trip.

That’s a tuff request to make. Putting out the money to cross the country is also spiraling. Paying $3.75 per gallon of gas in some locations can be discouraging. The lodge cost is also a factor and in increasingly hard times I wonder who else in our society may have the resources to enjoy this experience? Is there a way we can generate funding to supplement those who wish to go?

If the drive seems daunting, consider flying into Bozeman, Montanna or Rapid City SD or possibly Gillette Wyoming. Rent a car or SUV and take in some of the local sights. Past members have visited The Badlands, Devils Tower, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, and The Black Hill forest.

So all I can attempt to do is inspire others to make the journey (possibly the real point of all this blogging. )
